Hi everyone The chuck on my dremels has been seized on by rust. I've tried to break the hold with vise grips, but the plastic housing around the collar pulls apart before the chuck gives any indication of giving up. I sprayed some liquid wrench in there to no avail. What should I do? Are there other ways to get it to release, or do I need a new dremel? There are only two operations I need to use it for, so I'd prefer the cheaper solution.

maybe try a little heat as well to swell up the parts, hope this helps, Evan |

You're on the right track with liquid wrench. Spray it, and let it sit for 2-3 hours spray again, let it sit again etc. It may break free after several tries apply a little heat with a soldering iron-not too much, and watch for fumes from the liquid wrench. If all fails, then it's time for a new tool. Al |

Try a sharp "hit" on the end of the collet with a hammer, before taking the wrench to it again. That will sometimes shock the threads and allow them to release. Otherwise, open up the body, find a way to hold it, and use a real wrench on the collet |

i suggest the heat, heat only the outside of the collet, it should expand and come loose, not too hot though, or you will anneal the metal. stop heating before it changes colour. good luck |

BTW , on my model, there is a plastic/rubber transmission sleeve attached to the business end, inside the case. If this is your case, avoid the heat! |

Liquided, heated, and hammered. I had to go get a replacement. Haha, oh well. I don't know how it even happened. This thing's seized on like me to a corn dog. |
